Medica to Improve Access to Recommended Health Care Services Through Partnership with Target

MINNETONKA, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Medica is introducing programs designed to provide its members with improved access to affordable, convenient and recommended health care services through a partnership with Target. The programs are built around increasing flu vaccinations; ensuring babies get a healthy start; and accessing care for common everyday ailments.

“We believe these programs will help motivate our members to get care that follows recommended guidelines and best practices,” said Mark Werner, M.D., Medica chief clinical and innovation officer. “Medica is committed to ensuring convenient, quality care at affordable prices. We are delighted to introduce these programs that benefit our members.”

Improving Flu Vaccination Rates

Each year, as many as 65 million Americans fall victim to influenza and flu-related complications. Because of those risks, the Centers for Disease Control recommends that everyone older than six months receive a seasonal flu vaccination. Flu shots are offered at no cost to Medica members as part of their health plan coverage. Medica members in a group plan or individual and family plan who visit a Target Clinic or Pharmacy for a flu vaccination will receive a $5 Target GiftCard. The goal of the program is to make it convenient for Medica members to receive an annual flu shot while increasing the number of members who do so.

Benefiting Babies

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for newborn babies, a practice that Medica supports. To make breast pumps more readily available, Medica members can receive a Medela Pump in Style breast pump or any pump of lesser or equal value at no cost when they present their Medica ID card and a prescription for one at any Target Pharmacy in the Medica service area.

Preferred Convenience Care Network

Target Clinic has been designated a preferred convenience care network for Medica Individual and Family Plan members in Minnesota who are enrolled in a copay plan. The convenience care copay at Target Clinic is $10 rather than the standard $20 copay.

The flu shot and healthy pregnancy programs are available this fall. The Target Clinic preferred convenience care benefit will be available to Medica Individual and Family members starting January 1, 2014.
